Foods High In Vitamin C
Fruits and vegetables that are high in vitamin C, like lemons and oranges, have a unique strength for fighting gout. The alkalinity of many foods high in vitamin C helps neutralize your acid level for pH balance. Furthermore, the antioxidant powers of vitamin C can tag team uric acid to lower it even more.
In a 2011 study presented by the American College of Rheumatology, it was found that vitamin C can combat high uric acid levels. The studies looked into diets high in citrus fruits, such as tangerines, clementines, lemons, and such, to see how well uric acid dissolved into blood. For example, the amount of citric acid in lemons is known to stimulate the liver by forming calcium carbonate. The liver than works to filter out toxins from the body, including uric acid, and balances out the pH level, which in turn prevents uric acid from crystallizing and causing gout attacks.
Consider drinking some lemon-infused water in the morning and snacking on fresh oranges.
