Episodes of Interrupted Breathing
People with sleep apnea also struggle with periods when they are unable to breathe at all. This is a sure sign of sleep apnea. In fact, interrupted breathing is the main sign of both forms of sleep apnea. Both central and obstructive sleep apnea, as well as complex sleep apnea, are different processes occurring within the body. Although their causes are different, the outcomes are the same, i.e., episodes of interrupted breathing during the night. This is the most notable sign of sleep apnea which explains why sleep studies use interrupted breathing to diagnose sleep apnea. It is advisable to ask your partner or family member to monitor your sleep at night to see if you have episodes of interrupted breathing or other symptoms of sleep apnea.
