Mouth Breathing
Sleep apnea causes a lot of stress on the nasal pathways. When coupled with the resulting restrictions, a sufferer may be forced to breathe through their mouth to get enough air. With time, breathing through the mouth becomes a habit as the brain does everything to increase the oxygen intake.
However, this symptom isn’t unique to sleep apnea. Stress and anxiety can cause mouth breathing. There are other symptoms of sleep apnea responsible for exacerbating breathing via the mouth. Mouth breathing is also linked to abrupt loss of breath which can cause panic and stress. This symptom can become a common habit to the extent that sleep apnea sufferers may find themselves breathing through their mouth during the day.
