Constipation
Diverticulitis can also cause problems with bowel movements (slow them down) causing constipation. This symptom makes passing stool a slow, hard and painful process. Constipation caused by diverticulitis is linked to inflamed or dead colon tissues which slow down movement of food via the intestinal tract. Abscess coupled with swelling and/or blockage inhibits normal digestion. As food spends more time in the large intestines, most of the water is drawn out resulting in hard stool. You should consult a doctor if constipation persists or when it is accompanied by other symptoms.
