Anemia
Anemia is associated with many types of illnesses and diseases. Therefore, doctors tend to overlook the fact that this symptom may be related to Crohn’s disease. Anemia is the result of an iron deficiency due to chronic blood loss in the gastrointestinal tract. Fatigue is the primary result of anemia.
Inflammation makes it difficult for the small intestine to absorb and process the iron from food and supplements. The iron that is not absorbed by the small intestine stays in the body and becomes toxic. Toxic levels of iron in the body can worsen the symptoms of Crohn’s disease.
