Inflammation
Another frequent symptom of bone cancer is localized inflammation. The swelling and tenderness is caused by the growing tumor. While certain types of bone cancer will not always cause inflammation, especially those that spread through the blood, it is something to watch out for. The severity of the inflammation generally depends on the size of the tumor. If the tumor is growing somewhere that has a lot of nerves and connective tissue, inflammation is more likely to form. Look out for skin that is red and inflamed. The area may be sensitive to the touch.
You can treat inflammation by taking over-the-counter and prescription pain medications, icing the area, and eating foods with anti-inflammatory properties. That said, you should always see a doctor if the inflammation is unexplained or accompanied with other bone cancer symptoms.
