Symptoms Of An Ear Infection

Swelling

The amount of pressure exerted in the ear canal by an ear infection can result in swelling. The inflammation usually causes fluid to accumulate in the middle ear causing pressure in the spaces in the inner ear, particularly, between the back of the throat and eardrum. This space is known as the Eustachian tube. Besides swelling, this accumulation and inflammation can also cause a hot sensation in and around the ear. Other swelling-related symptoms include redness and tenderness behind the ear and within the ear canal.
