Have a Bedtime Routine
You will have noticed by now that many small changes talk about establishing a routine of some sort or setting up rules, like the no phone rule at dinnertime. Obviously, limiting surprises and disruptions reduce stress, which in turn assists with reducing anxiety. The same can be done at bedtime.
So many get home from work late, eat a late dinner, and then, in spite of how they feel, attempt to sleep without winding down. Or, they decided to binge on Disney+ and Netflix and end up asleep on the couch. You can’t expect to recharge your batteries with a lifestyle like that.
Instead, keeping in mind the other small lifestyle changes to reduce anxiety, create a soothing bedtime routine for yourself. This may include shutting off the phone, eating some dinner, doing some restorative yoga, taking a hot shower or bath, and then writing a journal entry before turning off the light. If you have to watch a TV show, promise yourself ONLY one episode then get up from the couch and get yourself to bed.
You will feel much better for it.
