Waking Before The Alarm Goes Off
For most people, waking before the alarm can be a good thing, especially if it’s a few minutes before the set time. However, if you’re waking up an hour or so before the alarm goes off, it could mean that your sleep cycle has been disrupted. While disruptions can happen for a number of reasons, Vikas Jain, M.D. and sleep medicine specialist at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital says, “If you wake up too early and never return back to sleep, this might influence your time in deep sleep and REM sleep.”
When your body is unable to maintain deep sleep and REM sleep, it will soon lead to sleep deprivation—a detriment to your overall health and wellbeing. If you think you’re not getting an adequate amount of sleep, try changing your sleep environment and hygiene or speak with your doctor. Everyone deserves restful sleep, so consider these seven points to get to the bottom of your troubles.
