Blood Clots
Cancers can release different hormones and biochemicals that affect every part of your body. One effect is an increase in clotting. This can cause deep vein thrombosis, a large blood clot that blocks veins that take blood from the body back to the heart. These clots cause the leg to become red, swollen, and warm. If the clot breaks free, it can travel to the lungs, causing a potentially fatal condition called a pulmonary embolism.
