Close Contact With Someone Infected With Tuberculosis
The easiest way to become infected with M. tuberculosis is to be in contact with someone who already has it. Since TB can be breathed in, you should take active steps to shield yourself from the disease if you are near someone who is infected or if you are going somewhere where TB infection is high (more on that below).
This means that anyone you live or work with, including housemates, family, friends, or people that you encounter regularly can pass their TB over to you. The risk increases when you are sharing an enclosed space, such as an airplane or office, with hosts for longer periods of time.
