Angiodysplasia

Angiodysplasia is the occurrence of abnormal, fragile, blood vessels in the gastrointestinal tract. It is a common cause of otherwise unexplained intestinal bleeding and is common in older people due to aging and degeneration of the blood vessels in the intestines.

In some cases of angiodysplasia people experience blood in their stools, usually black and tarry, however the blood loss is subtle. In most cases anemia is the more prevalent symptom of the disease. Other symptoms include fatigue, weakness and shortness of breath. Angiodysplasia is a blood in stool no pain condition.

Diagnosis of angiodysplasia is usually done via a scope of the affected area, however, diagnosis can be difficult, as the affected areas can be hard to find.
