Bowel Cancer or Polyps
Bowel cancer, also known as colon cancer or colorectal cancer, is cancer of the colon or rectum. Signs and symptoms of colorectal cancer includes blood in the stool, a change in bowel movements (constipation, thin stools), weight loss and fatigue.
A colorectal polyp is a fleshy growth on the lining of the colon or rectum. Polyps can be malignant (cancer) or benign (non-cancerous). If left untreated polyps can develop into colorectal cancer.
Most cases of polyps and colon cancer occur due to being older in age and lifestyle factors, such as alcohol consumption, obesity, a diet high in processed and red meats, smoking and lack of physical exercise. Drinking more than five glasses of water a day is linked to a decreased rick of bowel cancers and polyps.
