Chronic Itching
If you are finding that your eye is extremely itchy, you might have pink eye. Luckily, usually only the affected eye can cause the need to scratch. Therefore, if you believe that your eyes are itchy because of pink eye, we can’t stress the importance of hand washing enough in order to limit the chance that you will infect your other eye. Avoiding touching mouth is also important. When a young child is suffering from pink eye it can seem like it is inevitable that they will scratch their eye if its itchy as they are unlikely to understand/listen to messages about not doing so. The issue is that scratching the eye can increase the chance of the bacteria or virus being spread. One thing that could decrease itchiness of the eye is some eye drops. So if you or your child are experiencing itchy eyes, talk to your pharmacist to see if they might have one to suggest. We will warn you though, most children would rather deal with the itchiness than have eye drops put in their eye.
