How To Distinguish Between a Cold, Flu and Pneumonia

Getting Vaccines

There is currently no vaccine for the common cold. That said, you can prevent severe flu and pneumonia by getting vaccines if you are at risk. Keep in mind that the vaccine does not eliminate all risk. It merely mitigates how powerful the virus will be if you do contract it.

But why isn’t there a vaccine for the cold? Unfortunately, there is no way to make a vaccine that covers all of the viruses that can cause the common cold. One strain, rhinovirus, has over 100 variants alone. Also, since colds aren’t much of a threat, finding a vaccine is low on the list of priorities.
