How To Distinguish Between a Cold, Flu and Pneumonia

Lifespan of Cold, Flu, and Pneumonia

For the common cold, symptoms typically begin 1-3 days after getting infected. Then, the virus will run its course over a span of 3-7 days. Once the worse subsides, you will still feel stuffed up for another week or so.

Flu cases usually last 3-7 days, as well. Most people will be better before the end of the seven days, but it is always wise to wait until your fever has been completely gone for at least 24 hours before declaring yourself better. Also, this ensures you’re not contagious.

Pneumonia, however, may last up to 3 weeks, again depending on which kind you contract. Other forms are less severe and may last only a week. A lingering cough will stick around much longer, though.
