8. Limit Alcoholic Beverages

Don’t shoot us! We agree that a glass of wine (again or two or three) after a long day at work is sometimes just what the doctor ordered. However, wine and other alcoholic drinks are sedatives. This is the reason that they can slow down your responses and thinking. They also weaken your lower esophageal sphincter, which increases the likelihood of your stomach acid rushing back up your esophagus.

If you insist on indulging, try and limit yourself to just one or two alcoholic drinks at a time. Also do your best not to drink close to heading to bed. Another way to limit the affects of alcohol is to alternate between water and alcoholic beverages to give your stomach some help with digestion.
