Don’t Eat Too Fast
You should also practice mindful eating. Healthy individuals can get away with fast eating; however, the same can’t be said about COPD patients. It is advisable to slow down when eating to avoid worsening symptoms like breathing difficulties. Eating fast can take your breath away literally if you have COPD.
Taking enough time to chew food and putting your plate/cup down often between bites will help in preventing shortness of breath. COPD sufferers also stand to enjoy added benefits like better digestion and absorption. The body digests the food we eat better and derives the most out of the food (absorbs nutrients) when we take time to chew.
