Using Too Much Mouthwash
Do you use mouthwash every time you brush your teeth? Next time you pick up a bottle of the stuff, look at the ingredients. Mouthwashes that are high in alcohol can be particularly detrimental if the dentin is exposed. If you must use a mouthwash, try to find a neutral fluoride type or one made with all natural ingredients and less alcohol.
You can make your own mouthwash easily—and prevent exposure to harsh chemicals. All you need is some essential oils, such as peppermint, spearmint, or tea tree oil. Baking soda also helps. Simply mix water, the oils of your choosing, and some optional baking soda together and rinse you mouth out with the solution every single day.
