Abdominal Lump

A lump in the abdominal region should cause immediate concern, but it’s not normal. A lump, or tumor, that is caused by kidney cancer is typically located on either side of the abdomen or back. The lump will be hard to the touch, similar to a thickening of the skin or see a bulge beneath the skin. These growths occur in about 45-percent of all kidney cancer cases.

Again, the symptom rarely shows itself until the later stages of RCC and other types of kidney cancer, because it may take a while for the tumor to grow to the point of detection. Most people will rarely notice the kidney growing until other symptoms also become more apparent.

Once a lump has been discovered, a doctor will run diagnostic exams, such as a biopsy, CT scan, or ultrasound to determine whether the lump is benign or malignant. Not all lumps are cancer, but a lump is a cause for concern, nonetheless.
