    Other Treatment Options

There is no cure for polycystic ovary syndrome, but that does not mean there is no way to control the symptoms and lead a normal life, either. There are plenty of treatments that can soothe the symptoms and help get your life back. Speak to your doctor about the options available to you. If you are having difficulties sleeping, irregular or absent periods, skin issues, or hair loss, there are plenty of possibilities.

For instance, you may be prescribed birth control for missing periods and androgen-blocking medication to assist with hair growth or loss. Insulin-sensitizing medicine, as well as androgen blockers can help with acne and improve your chances of becoming pregnant, too. Patients are also told to eat healthily, get plenty of physical activity, and to make it habit to reduce their risk of other life-threatening conditions linked to PCOS.

Women with PCOS who seek to get pregnant are often given doses of letrozole and clomiphene to encourage ovulation. If that does not work, you have the option of gonadotropin injections. A surgical intervention known as ovary drilling is also possible for those who tried medications to no avail. Lastly, you can try in vitro fertilization (IVF). It is the most expensive route, but it is the best option for pregnancy, since your egg is fertilized outside of the body then reinserted for implantation later on.
