Sciatica
Irritation or inflammation of the sciatic nerve is known as sciatica. The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in our body and stems from the low back, emerges beneath the buttocks, the travels down the back of the leg. However, sciatica itself is not so much a condition as a symptom of another medical condition, such as lumbar disc herniation, piriformis syndrome, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease.
The common symptom of sciatica is anterior hip and buttock pain, but other issues reported are low back pain that radiates down the leg to the feet and toes; numbness and/or tingling in the lower extremities; and weakness in the leg and foot. The pain is typically isolated to one side of the body. Fortunately, sciatica is highly treatable. Most people can resolve their pain within 6-weeks of treatment.
