Treating Hashimoto’s Disease with Synthetic Hormones

If your blood tests come back and show that your blood has a higher than expected thyroid thyroid hormone deficiency, then it is likely that your doctor will prescribe you with a type of synthetic hormone in order to lessen this imbalance. The main hormone types are taken orally and are Synthroid or Levoxyl. They work by simulating the natural thyroxine hormone, which is produced naturally when the thyroid gland is working as it should be. It may take a while but the goal is for these synthetic hormones to level your hormone levels to a place that is in a normal range. Usually maintenance is required in that these levels are checked about once a year. Although there are no significant side effects of taking this synthetic thyroid hormone, it is a possibility that it must be taken forever.
