Genetic Causes of Hashimoto’s Disease
Dr. Monika Shirodkar, MD, a board-certified endocrinologist at Jefferson Health, at Thomas Jefferson University reports that certain diseases that affect the autoimmune system usually have a genetic component. According to Dr. Shirodk, if someone in your family has any type of thyroid or autoimmune disease, you are at a higher risk of developing the same condition but also other ones as well such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or Crohn’s disease.
