Unexplained Weight Loss
Cancer patients experience weight loss—it is one of the most common symptoms of every kind of cancer. This is caused by cancer cells cause fat and muscle atrophy. Oftentimes, an unexplained weight loss of 10 pounds or more that is sudden is the first sign of a cancer. In the case of bone cancer, malignant cells from the bone tumors will cause a disproportionate usage of energy, sucking away the cells’ ability to function properly. The body will tap into preserves to try and work through the cancer but to no avail.
Furthermore, cancer cells use more energy than regular cells, and they suck up valuable nutrients too. Without a proper nutrient balance, bone starts to break down.
Other symptoms connected with cancer, such as a lack of appetite and nausea, can contribute to weight loss as well.
