Nail Clubbing

Nail clubbing, also also referred to as digital clubbing, is a distinct, increased curvature of the nail plate. Although it is associated with various different health issues, the most common causes are those having to do with the heart and lungs. Although nail clubbing can occur in the absence of a major health issue, that is usually not the case. Nail clubbing has also been referred to as “Hippocratic fingers” as he was one of the first to ever write about this condition. This condition is also sometimes due to a lower than normal level of oxygen in the blood and can signify that something else is wrong. Other conditions that are associated with nail clubbing include inflammatory bowel disease (IBS), cardiovascular disease, liver disease and AIDS.
