The Steps of Treating Thyroid Nodules and Cancers
Usually one of two things happen if the nodule on the thyroid is cancerous or causes some worry. First, when the growth is small, your doctor might suggest waiting and running a few more tests. You will have a few follow-up visits and more blood work while making sure the lump doesn’t grow any larger.
The second route is if the growth alarms the doctor in some way, whether it is the size, shape, or location. They might call for a biopsy to examine cells from the lump beneath a microscope to search for signs of cancer. Only one in twenty thyroid biopsies reveals cancer.
