Surgery
Though these tips are helpful for most people with sciatica discomfort, some people may need more invasive treatments. Roughly 5 to 10 percent of sciatica patients may require a discectomy or laminectomy. As WebMD explains, these are surgeries where a doctor removes bone spurs, tissue, herniated disks, or part of the bone around the spinal cord. This takes the pressure off of the nerves and reduces discomfort. It is only recommended for those who have had chronic discomfort for more than three months.
