Avoid Family Drama
Along with accepting that you cannot be perfect is that fact that people are who they are. Family, include. Try to understand that people in your family are not perfect, and they may not live up to expectations. During this time of the year, setting aside grievances will promote more positivity and happiness, making the family gatherings much less stressful.
Of course, things may go awry. When that happens, avoid stirring up conflicts. Instead, tell the family member that while they are allowed to have certain opinions, it is best to keep those opinions to themselves—unless they want to leave. Remember, you don’t have to take part in the chaos. Separate yourself from the situation if you need to, and don’t feel guilty about prioritizing your mental health.
