Be Real With Yourself
Perfection may be something you strive for, but rigidly thinking that everything has to be as you envision it on the holidays is only going to set yourself up for anxiety, stress, and depression when your expectations are not met. Accept that there are many things you cannot change. It is better to go into the holidays with an open mind.
Oftentimes, depression develops when you put pressure on yourself to do everything perfectly. But is perfect, exactly? Instead of trying to match the image in your head, try to enjoy the opportunities that present themselves and practice mindfulness when cooking, wrapping presents, and setting up the decorations. Enjoy the little moments and memories made—because that’s what truly matters.
