Make a List, Check It Twice

Santa is not the only one who can trim down his to-do list. Even if you don’t have little helpers, you do not have to place the burden all on yourself. You are allowed to say no. In fact, you are not obligated to do anything that you don’t want to do. Unless you are completely enthusiastic about something, you shouldn’t pressure yourself to oblige—no matter what the in-laws tell you.

If holiday gatherings are too stressful, you don’t have to go. Optionally, you can limit the time you devote to dealing with more stressful situations. For example, if you must go to a party, you can give yourself an hour or two to make an appearance, greet people, and then leave before your anxiety sets in.
