Alopecia and Weight Gain
Hair loss and weight gain are two symptoms that often happen together. As your hair begins to thin, a condition known as alopecia (or male-patterned balding), you will also notice that you are gaining abdominal fat. Gynecomastia can also occur. No amount of dieting or exercise will help with this weight gain. Since testosterone plays a role in metabolism and even muscle protein synthesis, if you don’t have enough, your body will be able to continue burning calories and using protein effectively. This means that instead of putting on muscle, you put on fat, and instead of having protein to build hair, you lose hair on your chest, arms, legs, and genitals.
