Treatment Options For Low-T
Once you have gone through the process of meeting your doctor and receiving the results of the blood test, you will be presented with treatment options.
There are various kinds of hormone replacement therapies available:
• Injections – composed of synthetic testosterone injected into the muscles by the doctor
• Testosterone patches,
• Testosterone pellets and pills – pills that need to be taken daily. Dosages vary.
• Creams and gels – these are the most controversial, since some gels are known to cause heart attacks,
• Natural testosterone supplements – some herbal alternatives can help with elevating testosterone levels. Discuss this option with your doctor to make sure the natural remedies won’t impact any other medications.
Be sure to talk with your doctor about medications and supplements, as these can affect any other therapies or treatments you might be currently on. You should also discuss heart health with your doctor, since studies have shown that testosterone replacement therapy can increase the risk of heart disease.
Other ways to increase testosterone levels include losing weight and consuming a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients. Vitamin D3 is essential to the development of testosterone, so be sure to eat beans, tuna, eggs, fortified breads and cereals, beef, oysters, and shellfish—all of which have vitamin D. For vegetarians and vegans, you can find fortified plant-proteins to ensure you are getting enough for testosterone production, and try to stay away from foods high in phytoestrogens.
