Ossification

Ossification occurs when cartilage or fibrous tissue ossifies and becomes bone. It can be a very painful process and can negatively impact a person’s range of motion and movement. Other causes of ossification include trauma to the body part and genetics. In order to treat ossification, the affected muscle should be rested then iced for about fifteen minutes, compressed, elevated (to help drain excess fluid) and then stretched. Other treatments include anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, and orthotics.
