Shortness of Breath
Bronchitis can also cause shortness of breath due to inflammation of the trachea and bronchial tubes. The inflammation narrows the airways restricting air flow. The body increases mucous to deal with this symptom which impedes air exchange. The symptom worsens if the disease is left untreated as well as when a person engages in strenuous physical activity. Physicians prescribe inhalers or nebulizers with Albuterol to expand airways and improve breathing.
