Liver Cancer
Cancer that first develops in the liver is known as primary liver cancer. Of this type of cancer, the most common is called hepatocellular carcinoma, which develops in the liver tissues.
Liver cancer is another type of cancer that tends to not present with obvious symptoms in its early stages. Some symptoms of liver cancer include: unexplained loss of appetite/weight loss/fatigue, pain in the upper abdomen, swelling of the abdomen, nausea and/or vomiting, and jaundice.
Although it is not commonly diagnosed in children, Hepatoblastoma can develop in young children and hepatocellular carcinoma can develop in older children and adolescents. The tubes that transport bile between the liver and the gallbladder are known as bile ducts. Cancer can develop within these ducts inside the liver (known as intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma) but more often develops outside of the liver (intrahepatic extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma).
