Fluid Retention
PAH may cause fluid retention, or edema, in the feet, ankles, legs, and sometimes even your abdomen and fingertips. Swelling happens when your blood pressure is high, affecting the kidneys. The kidneys will then fail to flush waste from the body, allowing for toxins and other fluid to remain.
The longer you suffer from pulmonary arterial hypertension, the greater the risk of developing edema.
