Compliment others
One of the best ways of “breaking the ice” in awkward social environments is giving compliments. You could be anywhere really, i.e., in an elevator, grocery store, restaurant, name it! The quickest way to have a conversation and make friends with a stranger is to issue a compliment. This tip is easy because there’s always something good you can comment about a person from their clothing to their accessories, hair, etc. without appearing weird. A simple “I like your boots. Where did you buy them?” can be the beginning of a great friendship. Complimenting is effective especially when the recipient is willing to respond and engage in a conversation. Try it subtly.
