Hematuria
Also known as blood in the urine, hematuria can happen for a number of reasons and may not be detectable to the human eye. Hematuria may occur with no other symptoms, but some common conditions that it could be a symptom of include:
• Bladder infections (acute cystitis)
• Kidney stones
• Kidney infections (pyelonephritis)
• Kidney diseases and cancers
• Kidney inflammation (glomerulonephritis)
• Enlarged prostate
• Cystic kidney disease
• Tumors in the kidney, prostate, or bladder
• Injuries from accidents or sports
• Exercise
• Medications
In terms of kidney cancer, 50 to 60-percent of patients will have hematuria at one point. Keep an eye out for oddly colored urine that is tinged with pink, red, or brown. If you can rule out other causes of blood in the urine and believe cancer is the cause, contact a doctor immediately.
