    Fertility Issues With PCOS

Symptoms of PCOS vary, but a common issue tends to plague most women who have been diagnosed with the disorder—fertility problems and menstrual irregularities. The reason for these disruptions rests with the overproduction of male hormones and a lack of progesterone, the hormone essential to egg production and ovulation.

Also, the formation of ovarian cysts does not help matters. Cysts impede the secretion of progesterone from the ovaries and also impacts the release of matured eggs. If your periods do not come once a month, then that means you are not ovulating regularly. This could mean that you will have fertility issues in the future. Women with PCOS who are trying to conceive will need to consult with a doctor for advice.

PCOS can also make pregnancy itself harder. Women suffering from polycystic ovarian syndrome are two times more likely to deliver prematurely than those who don’t have the condition. They are also at a greater risk of high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, and miscarriage.

The good news is that women with PCOS can use fertility treatments alongside maintaining a healthy weight and diet to improve ovulation and have a successful pregnancy.
