Should I Get The Flu Shot Annually? Why?
Even though the H3N2 flu strains this past seasons were stronger than anticipated and thus lowered the efficacy of the shot, you should always get it. There are dozens of flu strains out there, and the shots are formulated to cover most of the common ones. Even a little protection is better than no protection. Plus, it is never to late to get the flu vaccine.
In fact, some flu strains become more prominent as the season goes on. For instance, this past season, there was a rise in H1N1 in the later winter months, while H3N2 dominated start of the flu season.
