How Deadly Is The Flu?
In 2019, the flu was particularly dangerous. The US government estimates that around 80,000 Americans died last year of complications related to the flu. That is the highest it has been in four decades. Furthermore, it is estimated that around 42.9 million people around the world had the flu this current season. Around 647,000 were hospitalized, and 61,200 people died.
While these are estimates of global statistics, it is clear that the flu is not something to be taken lightly. With about 10-30 percent of the American population getting the flu every year and thousands dying because of it, the flu is, without doubt, extremely deadly.
