Diverticulitis Surgery
Be advised that surgery is rarely recommended for diverticulitis, because the condition can ultimately be controlled with lifestyle changes, which we will be discussing next. However, if you continuously experience bouts of diverticulitis with no end in sight, or you have very severe attacks or complications from the condition, doctors may indeed recommend surgery.
If you have an autoimmune disease or other health complications, the compromised immune system might lead to surgery, since you will need to get the perforated section of the intestine removed to prevent dangerous infections—an operation known as “bowel resection.” Sometimes, when the infection is severe and does not allow the colon and rectum to be cleanly connected, a colostomy is necessary. This is rare, however, and very avoidable if the condition is diagnosed early enough.
