Treatment For Minor Infections
Patients with diverticulitis usually only have a minor infection. Very rarely will the condition become so bad that it is called severe. Usually, when you have minor diverticulitis, you will experience some discomfort and other symptoms, but the pain and discomfort is not debilitating. Antibiotics are often the first step towards treating minor infections and will effectively flush the infection from your system.
During this time, you will have to give up solid foods for time, since your gastrointestinal tract and bowels will be impacted. Drink nutritional liquids, like broth and fruit juice, for the first 2-3 days while the bowel heals. Your doctor will tell you when it is time to go back on solids or if you need to readjust your diet.
