Drink Mixes
So, you have water, but can you drink that every single day for days, weeks, or months? It will get demoralizing after a while, especially if you have children. Therefore, no stocker’s pantry is complete without drink mixes, like coffee, tea, Ovaltine and Nesquick, and other variants. While drink mixes are mainly for comfort, there are other benefits to having these items around.
First, it’s a morale booster. Coffee, for example, is more about comfort; but people can enjoy increased mental acuity and alertness. Teas are ideal for adding to boiled water, since any kind of tea can kill bacteria and has antioxidants and trace minerals. Caffeinated teas provide clean energy. Herbal teas can be medicinal. And most teas are soothing.
Other powdered drink mixes to consider include:
• Tang – a classic prepper item that is used to enhance the flavor of water. NASA astronauts have used Tang since the first days of walking on the moon. The best part? It contains vitamin C and calcium to prevent scurvy.
• Kool Aid – here is one for your sweet tooth. It’s not very nutritional, but a little sweetness can go a long way. You can also use other flavor enhancers, like Crystal Light.
• Gatorade powder – formulated with electrolytes, Gatorade is great for hot days when you are sweating a lot or during fevers.
