Canned and Dehydrated Animal Protein
What’s one of the main foods that people hoard? Canned meat and jerky. If there was only one thing you could stockpile aside from water, it would be jerky (unless you are vegetarian). Meat can provide humans with most of the necessary proteins and fats for survival during a crisis, so it is a smart thing to have on hand.
If possible, opt for grass-fed meat sources. Canned or packets of oily fish like tuna and salmon are excellent foods to have stored. These fish are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are needed for healthy brains, anti-inflammatory properties, and lowering chances of heart disease and stroke.
Another form of protein that you can look into is pemmican. Long used by indigenous peoples of North America, pemmican is a paste made from ground meat that has been pounded together with melted fat. It’s like jerky but not. Pemmican is easy enough to make on your own at home, and it will keep for many years when carefully stored.
