Hydrogenated Oils

You have read the words “hydrogenated oils” several times in this article so far. You might have known that these oils were terrible for your health long before reading this, but now you are about to learn the exact reason why hydrogenated oils need to be nixed from your diet.

Hydrogenated oils are a kind of vegetable oil that has been chemically processed several times to extend shelf life and gain a higher melting point. This is done by forcing hydrogen gas into the oil using high pressure. Common examples are margarine and Crisco. These oils have high levels of omega-6 fatty acids. Though omega-6s are not bad for you in small quantities, they become dangerous when consumed in excess.

For instance, breast cancer has been linked to hydrogenated oil consumption. Even just a little bit can change the cell wall, making it more permeable to free radicals, like carcinogens, in the body. Hydrogenated oils even prevent nutrients from getting to the cell. It is thought this imbalance will cause the cell to mutate, causing tumors and cancer.
