Get Inoculated
The annual flu shot is the best way to protect yourself from the virus. The reason you need to get a vaccination each year is due to how the flu virus mutates. Last year’s flu is not the same as this year’s version. Be sure to get the vaccine before you are in the thick of the flu season, too. It takes about two weeks for the vaccine to work efficiently.
While this might seem like a nuisance, the flu vaccine can reduce the risk of getting infected by 40 to 60 percent. Also, even if you get the flu after the vaccine, it greatly decreases the severity and duration. People over the age of 65 should take special precautions and get their flu vaccination sooner than later, preferably in October.
