Jaundice
Also known as the yellowing the skin, jaundice is often associated with liver problems caused by alcohol abuse. Jaundice occurs when a compound known as bilirubin starts to build up in the bloodstream and can turn the skin and whites of the eyes a shade of sickly yellow.
When the liver is healthy, bilirubin is used to breakdown old blood cells for disposal through urine. Yet, when a person has jaundice, their urine becomes darker and their stool will be lighter, since contaminants aren’t getting flushed from the system properly.
