Fever and Chills
Because of the pain, kidney stones usually do not go untreated; but in the event that someone does ignore their condition long enough, or the kidney stone is small enough to cause only mild discomfort, other problems can occur. Even though the stone is small, that doesn’t mean it will not scrape along the urinary tract and open up thin cuts that can get infected—causing a urinary tract infection (UTI).
Kidney stones increase the chances of getting a UTI, which can give you chills and a fever. Other UTI symptoms include pelvic and abdominal pain and changes to the frequency of urination, color and consistency. Since the fever can get high enough to endanger your life, you should always contact a medical professional, especially if you think you could have kidney stones or don’t know the cause.
